Since her election to the Missouri Senate in 2006, Jolie Justus has been a tireless advocate for children, social justice, working families and economic growth.

Jolie has been described as a “pragmatic leader” due to her ability to work across the aisle and get things done for Kansas City.

From the last eight years Jolie represented Kansas City in the Missouri Senate and in 2012 she was elected to serve as Senate Minority Leader where she continued her run as one of the area’s most effective legislators, passing dozens of bills that improve the quality of life for all Missourians.  In addition to her role as Minority Leader, Jolie held key roles as the Chair of the Senate Standing Committee on Progress and Development and as ranking member of both the Judiciary Committee and the Senate’s Committee on Jobs, Economic Development and Local Government. In 2014 Jolie was appointed to the Missouri Tourism Commission where she worked closely with other state leaders to bring tourism dollars to Missouri and Kansas City.

During her time in the Missouri Senate, Jolie sponsored and passed the first criminal code revision since the 1970s, an accomplishment lauded by prosecutors, criminal defense lawyers, law enforcement and crime victim advocates across the state.

Jolie is a graduate of Missouri State University and University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Law. Since 2003 Jolie has served as the Director of Pro Bono Services for Shook, Hardy & Bacon L.L.P., where she is a champion for Kansas City’s most vulnerable citizens.
